Walsh took the opportunity presented by the DFL Breakfast on January 21, 2012, following speakers including Attorney General Lori Swanson and candidates for the northeastern congressional district Tarryl Clark and Rick Nolan  to announce his intent to run for House or Senate in the Mille Lacs County area.  Lesley Toth of the Mille Lacs County Times and the Princeton Union Eagle was there to report on Walsh’s first public comments:

“As a lawyer, I meet people with problems and I solve them.  And we have some problems in the Minnesota House.”

“I think we need to get the top 10 percent paying the same as the bottom 10 percent — at least.
That’s just basic math.”

“Our kids are competing against kids in Edina and Eden Prairie. We need a new Minnesota Miracle.”
